7-Layer Dip Cups
These 7-layer Dip Cups are SO FUN to serve at any party, BBQ, potluck, or gathering.
I LOVE 7 layer dip, and often make it for parties because most people seem to love it too…it always disappears fast!
These personal serving cups are not only ADORABLE but also REALLY SMART if you need to feed a bunch of people and want to avoid double-dipping…lol
To make these ahead of time, prepare all of the “layers” the night before then you can quickly layer up the cups an hour before serving!
This recipe makes 4 servings so you can easily increase the quantities (double, triple, etc.) depending on how many people you’re serving.
Serve your dip with some good-quality organic corn chips (Jackson’s Honest & Siete are my current favorites!).
Also, serve them with little bamboo spoons to make it easier to scrape out the bottom of each cup.
What’s really in those taco seasoning packets?!
I love to mix up my own seasonings with organic spices because those little packets of taco seasoning are usually made with canola and soybean oils linked to inflammation, sugar, anti-caking agents, and natural flavors. Not to mention making my own taco seasonings actually tastes better too! YIKES. Many/most of us grew up with the packets and had no idea!
BEST Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix
You’ll never purchase those store-bought packets again, after making it yourself!!
So simple, delicious, and lasts for several months – so double or triple this recipe and keep it handy in a small glass container near your stove.
Taco Seasoning Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsps chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp paprika
- 3 tsps ground cumin
- 2 tsps sea salt
- 2 tsps ground black pepper
Taco Seasoning Instructions:
In a small mixing bowl, whisk all ingredients until combined well.
Store in an airtight container.
To use your homemade spice mix in recipes, start with a smaller sprinkle – taste test to decide the amount of spice for your family’s taste. Usually, 1-2 Tablespoons per pound of ground beef is perfect.
Cheese please:
Instead of buying pre-shredded cheese, I like to find a block of grass-fed cheddar cheese ON SALE and shred it myself….or better yet enlist one of the kids for this duty.
Many pre-shredded varieties are coated in very strange things (anti-caking & clumping garbage) that actually interfere with the natural texture and melting quality. Cellulose anyone?
Yikes.
Here’s our Homemade Pico De Gallo recipe.
4 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 (16 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed well
- 1 Tbsp homemade taco seasoning mix
- sea salt and ground pepper, to taste
- 1 cup homemade guacamole
- 1 cup fresh pico de gallo
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 2/3 cup sliced olives, drained
To assemble:
- 4 cups or small jars
To serve:
- organic corn tortilla chips
Instructions:
Place the beans in a shallow dish. Sprinkle them with your taco seasoning, then a pinch of sea salt and pepper if desired. Using a fork, mash and mix the beans until they reach the consistency of a slightly chunky bean dip. You will likely need a few Tablespoons of liquid to get your beans nicely mashed: use a splash of water or bone broth.
Divide your bean mixture equally into 4 glasses or jars.
Add layers as follows: homemade guacamole, fresh Pico de gallo, and Greek yogurt.
Next top with a layer of each: shredded cheese, olives, and green onions.
Serve with corn tortilla chips5 and enjoy!
