So you’ve decided Clean Eating is right for you, but what about your family? Will they join you in the journey, or stick to their old ways? Here’s the thing, change is hard, and everyone makes changes in their own time. As long as you trust yourself in your decisions and fuel your body and mind from a place of self-love, you are laying the groundwork for your family to follow in your footsteps.
1. Don’t Emphasize the Change, Just Make Dinner!
Do you ever notice how when we emphasize something is different, all of a sudden it becomes a “thing”? Well, the next time you want to make “healthy” food for dinner, don’t announce it, don’t send a warning, just make dinner! Be positive at meal time and let everyone come to their own conclusions. Of course, if everyone is used to a lot of sugar or fried foods, a plate of steamed broccoli is probably not the first dish you should make. And that leads us to the next step to inspiring your family to Eat Clean!
2. Start with the Crowd Pleasers
You’ll want to start by introducing your family to recipes that aren’t so different from the other meals they’ve been eating, but with a healthy twist! Slowly introducing new foods rather than making rapid change all at once can help them feel more empowered, and less like something is being taken away.
Here are a few recipes we LOVE for beginners:
Crockpot Maple + Mustard Chicken Drumsticks
20 Minute Mexican Style Casserole
Carb Free Lasagna Stuffed Chicken Breasts
3. Give them Space to Make up Their Own Mind
You are confident that Clean Eating works, you’ve seen other people’s results, and maybe you’re already well on your way in your own transformational journey. But your family hasn’t received the memo yet, and you’d like them to hurry up and get on board.
Trust me, I get it! I really do, but if you genuinely want this, you’re going to have to let go and give them space to make up their own mind. The more freedom they feel they have in the decision-making process, the more likely they are to make a decision that serves their highest good.
Whenever possible, make mealtime a co-creative process. Choose a recipe together, and invite them to help with preparing it. Another great way to get your family engaged, is to make recipes that require a bit of personalization.
Try these recipe options:
Egg Stuffed Bell Peppers 3 Ways
Clean Eating Overnight Oats 4 Ways
4 Clean Eating Chia Pudding Recipes
Clean Eating Crockpot Enchilada Soup
4. Make Clean Eating Treats!
You can’t live off of Clean Eating desserts, but they certainly are wonderful! AND they are a great way to show your family that Eating Clean doesn’t mean missing out. Try these recipes and blow their minds:
Flourless Double Dark Chocolate Brownies
No-Bake Mini Chocolate Chip PB Oatmeal Energy Bites
5. Lead by Example
The best way to inspire change in others is to focus on ourselves. People don’t love being told what to do, but when they have a chance to see someone close to them make positive shifts in their health and body, it’s bound to spark curiosity.
I’ve seen countless families start Eating Clean together as a result of one family member making the leap. Demonstrate self-love by committing to yourself even if your family isn’t on board, but don’t make them feel guilty if they aren’t interested. Stay positive and give yourself what you need to succeed.
Let your family know that you’re doing this for you, and chances are, eventually they’ll join you! In the meantime, consider joining us for the next 30 Day Clean Eating Challenge and let my team and I guide you with the support of a community!
