Blue Sky Smoothie Bowls
Aren’t they GORGEOUS These Blue Sky Smoothie Bowls were a total hit with my teenagers! So fun!
Cold REFRESHING homemade treats just in time for Summer!
Have you ever tried spirulina?
What is spirulina anyway?!!
Spirulina is blueish-greenish algae. It is considered by some to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on this planet.
Did someone say SUPERFOOD?!! Yes!
Because of its Blue or Green color spirulina makes for a GORGEOUS natural food coloring!
Spirulina Is Extremely High in Many Nutrients and Antioxidants such as B vitamins, Iron, and Copper – according to this article.
The quality of the protein in spirulina is excellent and comparable to eggs. It supplies all the essential amino acids that we require. What a great addition to your smoothies and smoothie bowls!
Here are a few more of our FAVORITE smoothie bowls for you to try this summer:

- Tropical Smoothie Bowls in a Pineapple:
2 servings
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe and juicy mangos, peeled pitted, and chopped
- 2 large ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
- 1 Tbsp blue spirulina, or as desired for color
To serve:
- blueberries, granola, unsweetened coconut flakes
Instructions:
Freeze your chopped fruits on 2 large trays for at least 4-6 hours, or until very firm.
Place your frozen fruit chunks into a high-speed blender or food processor along with the milk and spirulina powder then pulse, stopping to scrape the sides with a spatula as needed.
The spirulina makes the smoothie very creamy, but also a bit sticky, so it will stick a lot on the sides of your blender.
Blend until you have your desired consistency, you may need a little extra milk, or you may want to add a tiny bit more spirulina powder. You can experiment with the consistency and color until you have created something you love.
Transfer your mixture into serving bowls, then add toppings of your choice. We went with a blue theme here because it is unique and pretty, but any berries would be great!
Enjoy!
